Netherlands Paralympian Esther Vergeer hints at wheelchair tennis retirement

Netherlands Paralympic gold medallist Esther Vergeer suggests that she may not be competing in wheelchair tennis at Rio 2016 after clinching her fourth gold medal at London 2012

Netherlands' Paralympic champion Esther Vergeer has hinted that she may not compete in Rio 2016 after making history at the London 2012 women's wheelchair tennis tournament.

The 31-year-old won her fourth Paralympic singles gold medal this afternoon after defeating her compatriot Aniek van Koot in straight sets in the singles final.

"First of all I'm going to enjoy this one," The Telegraph quotes Vergeer as saying. "I'm not promising anything that I'll be here in four years. I don't know if I'll be going to Rio. I don't know what's going to happen in that social, private part of my life."

Vergeer is unbeaten in 470 games.
