Salford Red Devils coach Iestyn Harris hopeful over injury crisis

Salford Red Devils coach Iestyn Harris is hopeful that he will have enough players to choose from for the trip to face Hull FC on Friday night.

Salford Red Devils coach Iestyn Harris has revealed that the club may be able to scrape together a team to face Hull FC despite their ongoing injury crisis.

Salford had requested Friday's Super League clash to be postponed due to a host of injuries and suspensions leaving the club with just 12 players in training available for the match.

That request was turned down, but a number of players are rated as 50-50 and willing to play through the pain barrier to ensure that Salford are able to field a side.

"At the last count, we're not far away. There are a few people that could potentially come through for us and we'll give them until the last minute," Harris told reporters.

"[Liam] Hood is there or thereabouts, [Ben Jones-Bishop] is the same, as are Mason [Caton-Brown] and Scott Taylor. We've got five or six who are 50-50, so we'll give them until tomorrow to try and prove their fitness. If you had a lot of cover in relevant areas you'd probably say take another week to get right, but we haven't got that luxury at this moment in time.

"Rugby league is a tough sport and you need tough people. We've got some guys putting their hand up and are ready to go again. Probably on a normal week you wouldn't risk them, but there's some tough people in the group."

Salford have also considered bringing in players on loan, while a final option would be to register assistant coach Ian Watson and Under-19s coach Martin Gleeson.

"We're exploring it. If four or five of the 50-50s don't come through, then we'll need to look at that but at this stage we're probably alright," he added.

The Red Devils are currently seventh in the Super League table.
