Video referee apologises for try error

Referee Steve Ganson apologisese to Hull Kingston Rovers after awarding an offside try to Hull FC.

The Rugby Football League has issued an apology after a video referee made the wrong decision while reviewing a try during yesterday's Hull derby.

Steve Ganson failed to notice that Chris Green was offside when scoring the match-winning try for Hull FC as part of the Super League's Magic Weekend at the Etihad Stadium.

A statement from head of match official Jon Sharp said: "We have reviewed the decision and it is clear that Steve made the wrong call. Honesty and accountability are important to the Match Officials Department and we can only apologise for the error.

"Steve has been in contact with Hull Kingston Rovers and offered his apologies. He is one of the sport's most experienced officials and deeply regrets having got it wrong.

"As with all fixtures, we will conduct a full review of the performance of our match officials following Magic Weekend and will take what steps we can to ensure that mistakes like this do not happen again."

Hull FC went on to beat rivals Hull Kingston Rovers 22-16.
