Wolverhampton Wanderers are allegedly leading the race to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo on a season-long loan deal.

Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Last summer, the Brazil international was allowed to link up with Liverpool on a season-long loan deal, only for the move to prove a waste of time for all parties.

Arthur made just one substitute appearance in the Champions League before sustaining a thigh injury that sidelined him for the middle months of the campaign.

When the 26-year-old returned to training, he was not considered for first-team selection, subsequently denying Juventus any realistic chance of Liverpool signing him on a permanent basis.

As a result, Arthur is back in Turin, but it is an open secret that the Italian giants are eager to get the former Barcelona man off their books as soon as possible.

With Arthur having just two years left on his contract and not featuring in the plans of Massimiliano Allegri, Juventus will likely have to be open to compromises if they are to part ways with the out-of-favour big earner.

According to Calciomercato, each of Wolves and Crystal Palace are monitoring the situation ahead of a potential loan approach.

The report suggests that super-agent Jorge Mendes is ready to act as the go-between in a bid to find a new home for Arthur, who is in increasingly need of regular game time.

In the season before his stint at Anfield, Arthur completed 90 minutes on just five occasions in Serie A, making a total of 11 starts and nine substitute outings.

From Wolves' perspective, who have benefitted from Mendes's influence in the past, they are in search of at least one new central midfielder due to Ruben Neves joining Al-Hilal and Joao Moutinho departing on a free transfer.

Julen Lopetegui is still well-stocked for options with Mario Lemina, Matheus Nunes, Joao Gomes and Boubacar Traore his current top quartet for the centre of the pitch.

Nevertheless, Wolves still require more of an all-round option, with the strengths of Lemina, Gomes and Traore being their industrious nature whereas Arthur's presence stems from his passing.

While Palace have already added Jefferson Lerma to their ranks, they are three midfielders down - Albert Sambi Lokonga, Luka Milivojevic and James McArthur - from the squad that finished last season.
