Wolves lineup vs. Newcastle: Predicted XI for Premier League clash as Matheus Cunha returns

Is Cunha available again? Predicted Wolves XI against Newcastle

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Wolverhampton Wanderers could line up for Wednesday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

Wolverhampton Wanderers talisman Matheus Cunha is eligible to make his comeback from suspension in Wednesday's Premier League showdown with Newcastle United at St James' Park.

The Brazil international completed his two-game ban in the weekend's 2-1 FA Cup triumph over Bristol City and seeks to torment the Magpies backline in midweek, having made the third-most progressive carries in the current Premier League campaign.

While Cunha is available again, Vitor Pereira expects Craig Dawson (calf), Nelson Semedo (thigh) and Toti Gomes (thigh) to miss out, while Mario Lemina's status is up in the air due to illness and intense transfer speculation.

Cunha's return should see Goncalo Guedes sacrificed as the former joins Hwang Hee-chan and Jorgen Strand Larsen in the attacking third, even though the Portuguese teed up Rodrigo Gomes to score at Ashton Gate.

Gomes is likely to reprise his role thanks to Semedo's injury, though, while Rayan Ait-Nouri - Wolves' other scorer in the FA Cup third round - bombs down the left-hand side as ever.

The midfield pairing of Joao Gomes and Andre should also remain unchanged, unless Pereira decides that Tommy Doyle's fresh legs are required, and a Premier League debut awaits new signing Emmanuel Agbadou at the back.

The 27-year-old is expected to join Santiago Bueno and Matt Doherty in an unaltered back three, but Jose Sa will come back in for Sam Johnstone as the last line of defence.

Wolverhampton Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Sa; Doherty, Agbadou, Bueno; R. Gomes, Andre, J. Gomes, Ait-Nouri; Cunha, Hwang; Larsen
