Paul Lambert: Wolves wrong to sack Mick McCarthy

Norwich City manager Paul Lambert claims that Saturday's opponents Wolverhampton Wanderers were wrong to sack Mick McCarthy.

Norwich City manager Paul Lambert has claimed that Saturday's opponents Wolverhampton Wanderers were wrong to sack Mick McCarthy.

The Irishman was replaced last month after almost six years at Molineux by assistant Terry Connor following a poor run of results.

However, the Midlands club have continued to struggle under the guidance of Connor.

"I think Mick McCarthy going was the wrong decision," Lambert told reporters. "I think the drive and passion he has for the game might have stood them in good stead.

"That's taking nothing from Terry because he was part of it, but we have to try to keep them down there.

"It's mammoth for him. He's been thrown in at the deep end and you have to sink or swim."

The two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw when they met at Molineux in December.
