West Brom striker Saido Berahino admits "regret" over Spurs tweet

Saido Berahino admits his "regret" and apologises to West Bromwich Albion supporters and after sending a tweet last year saying that he would never play for the club.

Saido Berahino has apologised to West Bromwich Albion supporters and admitted his "regret" after sending a tweet last year saying that he would never play for the club while Jeremy Peace was chairman.

In September Berahino expressed his anger after failing to seal a move to Tottenham Hotspur, writing: "Sad how I can't say exactly how the club has treated me but I can officially say I will never play (for) Jeremy Peace."

The 22-year-old has since failed to earn a regular starting berth under Tony Pulis and was the subject of interest from Spurs, Newcastle United and Stoke City in the January transfer window.

With West Brom knocking back more approaches last month, Berahino has now spoken of his actions in the summer.

"It is something I look back and I really regret," PA quotes him as saying. "I should never have said that. I am human like you know.

"I make mistakes and I hold my hands up and I say it was a mistake from me and I just apologise to all the fans out there that have always supported me and also the club that has always believed in me.

"I have missed a lot of football and I am just trying to get myself back into match fitness and sharper again like I was last season so my focus is mainly on getting back to what I was last season and finishing really on a high."

Berahino has started only nine Premier League games this season after scoring 14 goals in 32 league appearances last term.
