Wales Euro 2016 hopes put on hold due to Israel draw

Wales are forced to wait secure their place at Euro 2016 after being held to goalless draw in their clash against Israel.

Wales will have to wait to secure their place at Euro 2016 after being held to a goalless draw by Israel in their qualifying clash at Cardiff City Stadium this afternoon.

Chris Coleman's men had the chance to take the lead in the eighth minute when Hal Robson-Kanu put a through-ball into the feet of Andy King, but his tame effort was saved by Ofir Marciano. Aaron Ramsey latched on to the rebound, but he could only head over the bar.

Wales continued to threaten as Jazz Richards raided down the right and sent a dangerous ball towards the near post, but Robson-Kanu could not make good enough contact to trouble Marciano.

The home side enjoyed plenty of possession in the final third of the pitch as the visitors opted to sit back and absorb the pressure, and the Dragons struggled to carve out clear-cut chances as a result of Eli Guttmann's men's resilience.

In the second half, Wales began to find their rhythm in the final third and came close to breaking the deadlock when Richards crossed from the right and Robson-Kanu headed at goal, but he sent his effort over the bar.

Coleman's men had a great opportunity to open the scoring when Robson-Kanu was brought down on the edge of the box by Orel Dgani. Gareth Bale took the set piece, but his effort went narrowly over the bar.

King was the next player to come close to putting the Dragons ahead as he bustled in front of his marker from a corner to head at goal, but he was denied by Marciano.

Bale almost unlocked the Israel defence in the dying minutes as he fired a low strike towards goal, but Marciano stuck out a hand to save his goalbound effort.

Simon Church thought he had secured his side's place at the championships next year when he latched on to loose ball in the box and headed into the net, only to be denied by the offside flag, leaving Coleman and his team waiting to secure their place at Euro 2016.
