Dick Advocaat: 'I feel sorry for the Sunderland fans'

Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat admits that he and his players need to have a good look at themselves in the mirror following their early-season woes.

Dick Advocaat has said that he feels sorry for Sunderland fans but vowed to do everything in his power to reverse their early-season woes.

The winless Black Cats remain rooted to the foot of the Premier League table after losing four and drawing two of their opening six matches - one of three teams yet to win a game.

Their latest setback came in Saturday's 2-0 defeat at top-flight new boys Bournemouth, and the Dutchman admits that a good hard look in the mirror is needed for him and his troops.

"For them, it's a shame," he is quoted as saying by the Sunderland Echo. "We are all well-paid and they give their last money to see that game.

"I feel very sorry for them, honestly. I really mean that. But I will do everything that is good for this club because it's a great club and great fans.

"I will look in the mirror myself. I really will. But the players have to do that as well. Hopefully they will come with the answer."

It gets no easier for Advocaat's men as their next league outing comes in a trip to Manchester United next Saturday.
