Harry Redknapp defends Tottenham Hotspur team selection

Harry Redknapp says that tiredness is an "excuse" and that he has no regrets over failing to rotate his squad on a regular basis.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has defended his decision to refrain from regular squad rotation throughout the season.

Spurs defender Vedran Corluka hit out at the former Portsmouth boss for not resting his team enough during the club's campaign, during which they have fallen from being title contenders to struggling to finish in the top four.

"I am very happy with what I have done," Redknapp said. "The players have probably played on average 30 games this year and I don't think is a lot.

"I don't ever remember Bobby Moore getting rotated, nor Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters, Dave Mackay or Alan Mullery. They played ankle deep in mud every week.

"It's my decision. It's difficult to rotate a team. It's okay to rotate if you have enough players to do it but I have not been in that position due to injuries. If people keep telling players they're tired, they'll believe it. It's a load of nonsense. It's an excuse."

Spurs take on Blackburn Rovers in a Premier League clash at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
