Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino: 'Hugo Lloris one of best in world'

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino claims that Hugo Lloris's performance against Real Madrid proves that he is "one of the best in the world".

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has described Hugo Lloris as "one of the best in the world" due to the goalkeeper's heroics against Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

The France international made numerous saves to keep Spurs in contention during a Champions League group match at the Bernabeu, one standout stop coming in the second half when Lloris used his legs to deny Karim Benzema a headed goal from close range.

Tottenham went ahead thanks to an own goal from Raphael Varane, but Cristiano Ronaldo levelled up proceedings from the penalty spot after Toni Kroos was brought down by Serge Aurier in the box.

At the end of the 1-1 draw in Madrid, Pochettino waxed lyrical about his goalkeeper.

"I think Hugo was fantastic," the Argentine told reporters. "The performance of Hugo today is one that deserves praise from everyone.

"Sometimes in the Premier League we were talking, myself telling you that Hugo Lloris is one of the best and today you got to see why I told you a lot of times Hugo Lloris is one of the best in the world.

"The performance was fantastic. A brilliant effort and the belief. It's important to congratulate the players. I'm so proud of the effort from them."

Tottenham currently sit at the top of Group H, level on points with Madrid, who hold the exact same record at this stage of the competition.
