Preview: Sevilla vs. Getafe - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's La Liga clash between Sevilla and Getafe, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Sevilla and Getafe will both be looking to claim their first wins of the 2024-25 season when they face off in Saturday's La Liga contest.

The hosts are languishing in 19th place with two points to their name, while the visitors are one point better off in 16th position.

Match preview

Sevilla boss Garcia Pimienta has experienced a tricky start to life at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, having seen his side take just two points from their opening four La Liga matches.

Garcia Pimienta began his tenure with a 2-2 draw against his former employers Las Palmas, before he saw his side concede a stoppage-time goal to lose 2-1 in a home meeting with Villarreal.

After going on to play out a frustrating goalless draw with Mallorca, Sevilla fell to a 2-0 home defeat to Girona in their most recent outing, ensuring that Garcia Pimienta went into the international break without a win and with his side languishing in the relegation zone.

While the season may only be four games old, the Sevilla head coach is already under pressure to spark an upturn in fortunes, and there will certainly be expectations for his side to perform in the next three winnable fixtures against Getafe, Alaves and Real Valladolid.

Garcia Pimienta has only faced Getafe on two occasions in his managerial career, with his Las Palmas taking four points off the Azulones in the 2023-24 season courtesy of a 2-0 home win and a 3-3 away draw.

Getafe are yet to taste defeat this season, but they are still searching for their first win after drawing each of their first three matches.

Jose Bordalas saw his side hold Athletic Bilbao to a hard-fought 1-1 draw at San Mames, before his team played out a goalless affair in their opening home game against Rayo Vallecano.

The Azulones produced another goalless scoreline in their final outing before the international break against Real Sociedad, as they claimed consecutive clean sheets in La Liga for the first time since December 2023.

With the international break over, Getafe are now preparing for two trips to Seville, with the Azulones set to face Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Saturday before they return to the Andalusian capital for Wednesday's meeting with Real Betis.

Saturday's visitors will have fond memories of their most recent trip to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in December 2023 when they produced a free-scoring display to record a commanding 3-0 victory.

Team News

Sevilla's Valentina Barco in action on September 1, 2024© Imago

Sevilla defender Loic Bade has been ruled out with a hamstring injury that he sustained on international duty with France.

The centre-back is joined on the absentee list by Albert Sambi Lokonga and Suso, who are sidelined with hamstring and knee injuries respectively.

Saul Niguez remains unavailable for selection, with the midfielder set to serve the second match of a two-game suspension.

Brighton & Hove Albion loanee Valentin Barco is set to retain his place in the side after making his debut in the defeat to Girona.

Meanwhile, Getafe defender Omar Alderete sustained a knee issue in Paraguay's win over Brazil and is now a doubt for the trip to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Turkey Under-21s forward Bertug Yildirim also picked up an injury on international duty and will have to be assessed ahead of Saturday's fixture.

Real Madrid loanee Alvaro Rodriguez is a doubt, while his fellow striker Borja Mayoral remains sidelined with a knee problem.

Sevilla possible starting lineup:
Nyland; Carmona, Marcao, Salas, Barco; Juanlu, Agoume, Sow; Lukebakio, Ejuke, Romero

Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria; Iglesias, Djene, Aberdin, Rico; Arambarri, Milla, Alena; Perez, Sola, Uche

We say: Sevilla 1-1 Getafe

Sevilla have experienced a disappointing start to the season, and we think that they could experience more frustration against a defensively-resolute Getafe side, who we believe will do enough to take a point from Saturday's contest.
