Preview: Rotherham United vs. Preston North End - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Rotherham United and Preston North End, including predictions and team news.

Preston North End will be looking to continue their remarkable away form when they travel to Rotherham United on Saturday.

The Lilywhites won 3-0 at league leaders Reading on Wednesday night, while the Millers lost 1-0 at home to Luton Town.

Match preview

It is now four wins and one draw from five away games this season for Preston, an incredible return considering they have lost all five home games.

They are probably quite pleased then to be on the road again this weekend as they attempt to edge closer to the top six.

Alex Neil's side are currently 12th in the table, but had pre-season hopes of mounting a playoff push having finished ninth last season.

Such a commanding win at the Madejski Stadium, and just a second clean sheet of the season, serves as a reminder of the quality in their side.

Scott Sinclair was on target once again and there was a first goal in Preston colours for Emil Riis Jakobsen before Brad Potts rounded off the scoring late on.

They will certainly pose a threat to a Rotherham side who have kept only two clean sheets this season.

The Millers dominated the first half against Luton in midweek but were ultimately beaten by James Collins's 70th-minute volley.

It was a game that highlighted two of Rotherham's key problems this campaign – missing vital chances and failing to offer much attacking threat after falling behind.

Following three defeats in four games Paul Warne is now looking nervously over his shoulder, particularly after Sheffield Wednesday's points deduction was reduced.

His side are two points above the relegation zone in 19th and face high-flying Swansea City and Bournemouth later this month.

Team News

Paul Warne has said that he needs to "freshen the team up" after suggesting that fatigue was a problem for Rotherham against Luton.

One definite change will see Joe Mattock drop out of the side after coming off just ten minutes into the game on Wednesday with a hamstring problem.

It has been confirmed that Shaun MacDonald has broken his leg following a challenge at Stoke last weekend and will miss at least the next two months.

Alex Neil could name the same side for a second game in a row after how impressive his team were against Reading.

Preston will be pleased to get to the international break because their injury list is beginning to mount up, with Patrick Bauer, Andrew Hughes, Ben Davies and Ben Pearson all missing on Wednesday.

Rotherham United possible starting lineup:
Blackman; Harding, Ihiekwe, A. MacDonald, Wiles; Lindsay, Crooks, Barlaser; Jozefzoon, Ladapo, Sadlier

Preston North End possible starting lineup:
Rudd; Fisher, Huntington, Storey, Rafferty; Browne, Ledson; Sinclair, Harrop, Potts; Jakobsen

We say: Rotherham United 1-2 Preston North End

It would seem foolish not to back Preston away from home at the moment, particularly after they smashed high-flying Reading in midweek. Rotherham are going through a rocky patch and will be thankful to get to the international break.
