Wes Hoolahan rescues draw for Norwich City against Everton

Wes Hoolahan's goal earns struggling Norwich City a point against high-flying Everton.

Everton have moved into sixth place in the Premier League, despite letting a half-time lead slip against strugglers Norwich City.

The Toffees appealed for an early penalty at Carrow Road, believing that Sebastien Bassong had brought down ex-Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu, but their protests failed to convince referee Martin Atkinson to point to the spot.

Norwich's best moment in the early stages saw Nathan Redmond show his turn of pace to beat Leighton Baines, but with the angle tightening, the attacker was unable to trouble Tim Howard.

Romelu Lukaku then squandered a chance to give the Blues a breakthrough as latched onto Arouna Kone's pass before the Belgian's strike flew wide.

However, the former Chelsea forward atoned for his earlier miss as he rose at the back post to meet Deulofeu's incisive cross and headed the ball beyond Declan Rudd.

Everton continued to push for goals as Kone was thwarted by an onrushing Rudd as the Ivory Coast forward found himself one on one with the Canaries' second-choice stopper.

They were left to rue late chances in the first half as Lukaku dragged a close-range effort wide and Baines fizzed a shot against the upright.

However, Norwich started the second period in a much brighter fashion than they finished the first and managed to level through Wes Hoolahan two minutes after the restart.

The Blues almost restored their lead within moments as Tom Cleverley seized on a loose ball after the Canaries failed to clear, but could not convert his chance.

Norwich threatened to take the lead with 20 minutes left as Cameron Jerome was presented with the opportunity to score from Hoolahan's back-heel, but failed to work Howard amid groans of frustration from the home support.

However, Everton were able to take a point and could have taken all three late on, but for Rudd saving Gareth Barry's shot at point-blank range.
