Preview: Huddersfield Town vs. Norwich City - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship fixture between Huddersfield Town and Norwich City, including team news and injury news.

Norwich City begin life back in the Championship with a trip to face much-changed Huddersfield Town at the John Smith's Stadium.

Both clubs head into the contest in Yorkshire having suffered surprise defeats in the EFL Cup last weekend.

Despite the sale of Jamal Lewis to Newcastle United earlier this week, Daniel Farke will be delighted with the make-up of his Norwich squad heading into the new season.

Other key players could follow the Northern Ireland international out of the exit door, but the Canaries have welcomed 11 fresh faces to Carrow Road ahead of their first year back in the Championship.

Although the additions of Ben Gibson and Kieran Dowell stand out, much is expected from winger Daniel Sinani after his nine goals in the Europa League last season.

However, with many of his senior players away on international duty, Farke witnessed Norwich succumb to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Luton Town last weekend, a result which highlighted that there is plenty of work to do in order to get back on track after relegation from the Premier League.

Their opening-day opponents Huddersfield discovered last season that it is not easy to readjust to life back at the second tier, only finishing in 18th position in the standings.

Although Danny Cowley, a replacement for Jan Siewart, kept the Terriers in the division by the penultimate weekend of the season, he was ruthlessly removed from his role once survival had been achieved.

Through his work alongside Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United, that has led to Carlos Corberan being appointed as the new head coach, a decision which has been made with a considerable element of risk.

A drastic change of approach has worked for Huddersfield in the past, with David Wagner taking the club from the bottom half of the Championship to the Premier League in less than two years.

However, faced with having to deal with a significant amount of upheaval regarding personnel, Corberan will be aware that altering the club's fortunes for the better will be no easy task.

Team News

Norwich boss Farke will recall a number of players to his starting lineup after their time away on the international scene.

Tim Krul, Max Aarons, Ben Godfrey, Oliver Skipp, Sinani and Teemu Pukki could all be handed outings by the Canaries head coach.

After the defeat to Rochdale, it would come as a surprise if Corberan did not make any alterations to his Huddersfield side.

Manchester United loanee Joel Pereira could make his debut between the sticks, while Richard Stearman is likely to be restored to the defence.

Adama Diakhaby may be used on one of the flanks after his outing as a substitute last weekend.

Huddersfield Town possible starting lineup:
Pereira; Rowe, Schindler, Stearman, Toffolo; Pritchard, Hogg, Jackson; Diakhaby, Ward, Bacuna

Norwich City possible starting lineup:
Krul; Aarons, Zimmermann, Godfrey, McCallum; Tettey, Skipp; Sinani, Dowell, Cantwell; Pukki

We say: Huddersfield Town 1-2 Norwich City

With Norwich missing several players due to international duty last weekend, it may take time for the returnees to settle back into the side. Nevertheless, given the transition period which is currently occurring at their hosts, it would come as a surprise if the Canaries do not prevail in this one.
