Millwall appoint Steve Lomas as their new manager after agreeing terms with the St Johnstone boss.

Millwall have agreed terms with St Johnstone boss Steve Lomas over the vacant manager's position at The Den.

The Lions have been without a manager since Kenny Jackett resigned last month, and were given permission to speak to Lomas yesterday.

The 39-year-old, who guided St Johnstone to their highest ever league finish this season, has earned his shot with Millwall, according to the Scottish club's chairman Steve Brown.

"[Steve] joins Owen Coyle and Dereck McInnes in having been successful enough to warrant a crack at a bigger club," said Brown.

"We wish him well with that and thank him for his efforts with St Johnstone."

Millwall chairman John Berylson also praised Lomas's achievements and insisted that he was the best man for the job.

"I was tremendously impressed with Steve. He has great passion and energy, and this is a job he is genuinely hungry for," said Berylson.

"We want the best man for the job, and we believe that man is Steve Lomas."

Lomas will begin his new role next week when he returns from holiday.
