Preview: Manchester City Women vs. West Ham United Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Manchester City Women and West Ham United Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

On Sunday, Manchester City Women will continue their Women's Super League title bid with a home game against West Ham United Women.

The Citizens are sitting in second place in the WSL table, while the Hammers are currently languishing in 11th position.

Man City are in the hunt for their second WSL title after winning their last 12 league matches, including a 4-1 win in their most recent outing against Liverpool before the international break.

Lauren Hemp and Jess Park grabbed a goal apiece before Bunny Shaw netted a brace to guide the Citizens to a dominant victory.

They may have scored at least three goals in each of their last three games, but Man City are sitting behind Chelsea on goal difference with four games left to play against West Ham, Bristol City, Arsenal and Aston Villa.

With Chelsea in Champions League action this weekend, Man City have the chance to move three points clear if they are able to record a seventh consecutive home win in the WSL.

The Citizens have fared well in recent matches against West Ham, having won each of their previous five head-to-head meetings.

West Ham have experienced an underwhelming season, having won three, drawn four and lost 11 of their 18 league matches.

Their winless run extended to five matches with a goalless draw against Brighton & Hove Albion before the recent international break.

Despite finding wins hard to come by, the Hammers boast a seven-point cushion over basement side Bristol City with just four fixtures left to play against Man City, Aston Villa, West Ham and Tottenham.

If Bristol City lose to Liverpool on Saturday, Rehanne Skinner's side will be able to secure their safety with a win against Man City.

The Hammers are looking to claim their first head-to-head victory since recording a 2-0 win at the Joie Stadium in October 2021, which came courtesy of goals from Dagny Brynjarsdottir and current Man City player Yui Hasegawa.

Team News

The hosts recently signed Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Katie Startup on an emergency loan deal to help cope with Ellie Roebuck's and Sandy MacIver's absences.

First-choice shot-stopper Khiara Keating is expected to be fit despite withdrawing from the England squad earlier this month.

Full-back Leila Ouahabi could be brought into the starting lineup after missing the win over Liverpool through injury.

As for the visitors, they have doubts over the availability of Kristie Mewis and Katrina Gorry due to their respective injury issues.

Abbey-Leigh Stringer remains sidelined for Sunday's fixture, but she is making progress in her recovery and is hoping to play again before the end of the season.

Riko Ueki will continue to lead the line for West Ham, with the Japan international looking to add to the four league goals that she has scored this season.

Manchester City Women possible starting lineup:
Keating; Casparij, Aleixandri, Greenwood, Ouahabi; Park, Hasegawa, Coombs; Fowler, Hemp, Park

West Ham United Women possible starting lineup:
Arnold; Shimizu, Tysiak, Zadorsky; Denton, Hayashi, Snerle, Smith; Harries, Asseyi, Ueki

We say: Manchester City Women 3-0 West Ham United Women

Man City have not dropped a point in the WSL since December, and we think that they will continue their fine run of form by claiming a comfortable victory in Sunday's home clash against a struggling West Ham side.
