Newcastle United pull out of the race to sign Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard on loan, according to a report.

Newcastle United have reportedly pulled out of the race to sign Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard on loan for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign.

The Magpies had seemingly emerged as the favourites to acquire the England international on a short-term basis, with Man United rejecting offers from the likes of West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur.

However, according to Sky Sports News, Newcastle have now given up hope of bringing the attacker to St James' Park for the rest of the season.

The report claims that Eddie Howe's side were not prepared to pay the loan fee that Man United were demanding, so the proposed deal 'is now dead'.

Lingard has entered the final six months of his contract at Old Trafford and is expected to leave the 20-time English champions on a free transfer this summer.

The 29-year-old has scored twice and registered one assist in 14 appearances for Man United during the 2021-22 campaign but has only played 88 minutes of Premier League football this term.
