Nottingham Forest confirm the loan signing of Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson for the 2022-23 season.

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the arrival of Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson on a season-long loan deal.

The 25-year-old played second fiddle to David de Gea throughout the entirety of the 2021-22 season at Old Trafford and only made three appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions.

Henderson did not play a single minute in the Premier League for Man United, with the shot-stopper featuring once in the Champions League, EFL Cup and FA Cup.

With Henderson pining for regular game time ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the England international will be working under the tutelage of Steve Cooper for the 2022-23 season.

"I'm absolutely delighted to be joining such a fantastic club with an amazing set of fans and a wonderful history," Henderson told nottinghamforest.co.uk.

"I want to thank the manager and owners at Nottingham Forest for the great opportunity to play for this club in their first season back in the Premier League. I'm really excited to work with everyone at the club from the manager, players and goalkeeper coach Danny Alcock.

"Finally, just a massive thank you to the fans for the welcome I have received and I can't wait to celebrate some brilliant moments together this coming season."

Manager Cooper added: "Dean is a top-class goalkeeper and he's hungry for more opportunities to play and to continue to prove himself at the highest level. He's played multiple times in the Premier League but has also experienced the Champions League and international football.

"Again, Dean is someone who has attracted a lot of interest from other clubs and we're delighted that he has chosen to Nottingham Forest for our return to the Premier League."

Henderson arrives at the City Ground ahead of Brice Samba's expected departure, as Cooper's current number one is believed to have informed the club that he does not intend to sign a new contract.

Samba has entered the final 12 months of his contract with the newly-promoted side and is now expected to complete a switch to Ligue 1 side Lens in the coming weeks.

Henderson has become Forest's second major arrival of the summer window after the Tricky Trees forked out a club-record £17.5m to sign striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Union Berlin.

The Man United loanee arrives having made 29 appearances for the Red Devils in all tournaments, keeping 13 clean sheets, and he previously starred on loan at Sheffield United.

Henderson played all 46 Championship games in the 2018-19 campaign to help the Blades achieve promotion, and he proceeded to record 13 shutouts for Chris Wilder's side in the 2019-20 top flight.
