David Moyes refuses to get carried after watching his side defeat Southampton 3-1.

Everton boss David Moyes praised his side following their 3-1 victory over Southampton but downplayed their chances of challenging at the top of the league.

The Scot insisted that his team's primary goal is Premier League survival, followed by securing European football.

"If I had paid to watch that then I would have been pleased. Some of our play in the first half had me clapping and smiling even though we never put it to bed completely," he said.

"I'm not daft enough to get carried away. Hopefully if we get up there then we'll stay up there, but I don't think Manchester United or Manchester City will be too worried about Everton right now.

"The first thing is to avoid relegation and then the next thing is to see if we can get a Euro spot. For me that is the way it is always going to be - that's not me talking it down."

Two goals from Nikica Jelavic and a Leon Osman strike secured victory for The Blues after Gaston Ramirez headed Southampton in front.
