Liverpool are reportedly considering a late bid to sign Sampdoria midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard before the 11pm deadline on August 31.

The Danish international has seen his profile increase over the summer after impressing at Euro 2020, scoring two goals and providing one assist in five appearances.

Several Premier League clubs are believed to be interested in signing the 21-year-old, but according to La Repubblica, Liverpool and Leeds United are the two teams currently leading the race for the midfielder's signature.

Aston Villa are also believed to be monitoring Damsgaard's situation, while the report states that Tottenham Hotspur have now dropped out of the running.

Jurgen Klopp is keen to recruit a new midfielder this summer, following the departures of Georginio Wijnaldum to Paris Saint-Germain and Xherdan Shaqiri to Lyon.

It has previously been reported that scouts from the Reds were spotted at Sampdoria's match against AC Milan last week to watch Damsgaard, who played the full 90 minutes.
