How Liverpool could line up against Newcastle United

Sports Mole looks at how champions Liverpool could line up for Sunday's final-day Premier League clash with Newcastle United at St James' Park.

Liverpool bring their unforgettable 2019-20 season to a close on Sunday when they take on Newcastle United at St James' Park on the final day of the campaign.

The champions lifted the trophy in style on Wednesday night after beating Chelsea 5-3 in their final home game, and will now be looking to finish a season which will live long in the memory with a flourish.

The Reds have been in poor form away from home recently, but they take on a Newcastle side with little left to fight for and without a win in their last five outings.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Jurgen Klopp could set his side out for the contest.

Klopp must decide to what extent he wants to rotate his team for the final day; he could view it as an occasion to give more first-team experience to youngsters, or one last opportunity for the more established stars to get a run-out at the end of such a successful campaign.

Every player is sure to be pushing for inclusion, not least goal-hungry Mohamed Salah, whose frustration at being taken off in the 79th minute against Chelsea when he had not got himself on the scoresheet spoke volumes about the demands he places on his own shoulders.

The Golden Boot looks beyond both Salah and Sadio Mane now, but the first-choice front three could nevertheless be maintained for this match.

Liverpool will definitely be without newly-crowned FWA Footballer of the Year Jordan Henderson due to his knee injury, while Joel Matip is also sidelined with a toe problem.

Klopp will be keen to hand farewell appearances to Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren, the latter of whom is thought to be closing in on an £11m move to Zenit St Petersburg, although the threat of injuries means that those are only likely to come off the bench.

Virgil van Dijk is almost certain to start again as he aims to become only the fifth outfield player to play every single minute of a title-winning season, following in the footsteps of Gary Pallister, John Terry, Wes Morgan and Cesar Azpilicueta.

Midfield is where the fiercest competition for places comes, and Georginio Wijnaldum, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all underlined their stake for a starting spot with goals against Chelsea last time out.
