Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers impressed by captain Jordan Henderson

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers praises Jordan Henderson for how he has adapted to being the club's new captain.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed that Jordan Henderson has done "very, very well" as the club's new captain.

The England international midfielder was given the armband in the wake of Steven Gerrard's departure from Anfield earlier this summer.

Henderson's latest outing as skipper saw the Reds draw 1-1 with a Malaysia XI in the final game of their pre-season tour of Australia and the Far East.

When asked what he thought of Henderson as captain, Rodgers told reporters: "He's taken on board the responsibilities and is doing it very, very well.

"He is a young player that has taken on the mantra of the captaincy and of course it's a huge responsibility. I think he has settled into the role really well and his leadership is about looking after the team and coming back to me. We communicate very well and so far it's been really good."

Liverpool are back in pre-season action on August 1 when they face HJK Helsinki in the Finnish capital.
