Kris Boyd: 'Daniel Sturridge has to leave Liverpool for regular football'

Former Rangers forward Kris Boyd believes that Daniel Sturridge should leave Liverpool in January due to a lack of game time under Jurgen Klopp.

Former Rangers forward Kris Boyd has claimed that Daniel Sturridge's "time is up" at Liverpool and believes that the striker should move clubs in the January transfer window.

The England international has made just four Premier League starts under manager Jurgen Klopp this season.

The 27-year-old has been nursing a calf injury since last month, and in that time he has witnessed teammate Divock Origi score five goals in as many games.

Injuries have played a part in Sturridge's stuttered career at Anfield, but Boyd believes that even at 100% fitness, the striker will not be first choice.

"I don't think there's any question about how good Daniel Sturridge is as a player, but I think his time is up at Liverpool and he'll have to move on to find regular football," Boyd told Sky Sports News.

"There's no doubt he's a talented footballer, but when somebody is coming in and scoring goals like Origi has, every time he has come in he has not let Liverpool down, it's difficult. Does Klopp really fancy Sturridge? Even when he's fit, he's not played a lot of football."

Sturridge joined the Reds from Chelsea in 2013 for a fee in the region of £12m.
