Steven Caulker: 'I'm aware of Liverpool's expectations'

Steven Caulker insists that he is up for the "challenge" after joining Liverpool on loan from Queens Park Rangers.

Steven Caulker has insisted that he is up for the "challenge" of playing for Liverpool following his loan move to Anfield from Queens Park Rangers.

The defender completed his transfer to the Merseyside outfit on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old was already on loan at Southampton but after making just eight appearances, the Saints agreed to cancel their agreement.

Caulker's arrival is in order to provide cover for Liverpool's injury-hit defence.

"It's a club I've watched for many years, and I am very aware of the style in which they play and the expectations of the club," Caulker told the club's official website. "It's a challenge I am very much looking forward to.

"It'd be nice to pull on a Liverpool shirt and walk out at Anfield - that'd be a very special moment. If I make a lot of appearances here, I'd be delighted and it's something I'd be very proud of. If I can help the team in any way possible, that'd be a big plus to me.

"I don't know what the future holds but for now it's about taking each day as it comes, there's a big game tomorrow and if I'm selected then I'll obviously try my best to go out there and help the team."

Caulker is eligible to play in tonight's match against Arsenal at Anfield.
