Hull City owners repeat quit threat

Hull City vice president Ehab Allam repeats his family's threat that they will walk out on the club if they are not allowed to change its name.

Hull City vice president Ehab Allam has repeated his family's threat that they will walk out on the club if they are not allowed to change its name.

The Allams submitted a formal application to the Football Association in December confirming that they want the Premier League team to be called Hull Tigers.

The proposed move, which must be ratified by the FA, has been received angrily by supporters of the club.

"We hope the fans understand that we cannot own or run a club where we cannot make the right decisions," Allam wrote in an open letter published in the Hull Daily Mail.

"If we were denied the chance to operate the business in the way we feel fit, and that we firmly believe is in the long-term interests of the club and the fans, then we would have no alternative but to offer the club for sale.

"We need something that makes us stand out from the pool of teams we find ourselves in when it comes to attracting potential international sponsors, who are simply hoping to use the Premier League, and its global audience, to advertise. We feel the Hull Tigers brand would give us an edge in any negotiations."

The Allams, who took over Hull back in 2010, have spent around £74m on the club.
