Alberto Aquilani inspires Fiorentina to easy win against Atalanta

Alberto Aquilani scores twice for Fiorentina as they beat Atalanta 4-1 in Florence to move to third in the Serie A table.

Fiorentina have climbed up to third in Serie A with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Atalanta at home.

The Viola made the breakthrough as early as the fifth minute when Gonzalo Rodríguez shot home Manuel Pasqual's cross from close range.

Fiorentina doubled their advantage in the 32nd minute through Giacomo Bonaventura, who turned in Cristian Raimondi's headed pass.

Two minutes later Alberto Aquilani came close for the home side, but saw his attempt from outside the box saved.

Aquilani did put his name on the scoresheet in the 42nd minute with a direct free kick.

Things went from bad to worse for Atalanta in injury time when Luca Cigarini was dismissed.

A minute later Borja Valero put in a delightful delivery that Aquilani turned in from the centre of the Atalanta penalty box.

Four minutes into the second half Fiorentina scored their fourth goal of the afternoon, as Luca Toni headed home Aquilani's cross from close range.
