Alexandre Pato completes move to Villarreal following failed Chelsea loan

Alexandre Pato joins Villarreal on permanent deal from Corinthians after last season's failed loan spell at Chelsea.

Corinthians have announced that Alexandre Pato has joined Villarreal following a failed loan spell at Chelsea.

The Brazilian moved to Stamford Bridge for the second half of last season, but made just two first-team appearances.

Lazio were keen to sign the forward, but were rejected by the player, claiming that he intended to stay in Brazil until December.

However, Corinthians announced this afternoon that Pato has joined Villarreal on a permanent deal.

A statement from the club read: "Corinthians confirm the sale of Alexandre Pato. By agreement between Corinthians and Villarreal we will not be officially declaring the trading value."

Pato was a bright prospect when he joined AC Milan in 2007 and eventually went on to score 63 goals in 150 appearances, but injury blighted the closing stages of his five-year spell in Italy.

The forward signed for Corinthians in 2013, spending one season on loan at Sao Paulo and half a campaign at Chelsea.
