Andre Villas-Boas claims that he should be given some of the credit for Chelsea's success last season.

New Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has claimed that he played a significant part in Chelsea's success last season.

The Portuguese coach was sacked by the Blues in March after only eight months in charge.

However, they eventually went on to win both the FA Cup and Champions League under the guidance of Roberto Di Matteo.

Despite the Italian leading the side to glory, Villas-Boas believes that it was the squad that he put together that won the trophies.

"For Chelsea to have won the FA Cup and the Champions League, it means we were still present in those competitions at that time [of sacking]," he told reporters.

"I was very honoured I was able to put that team together. You could say part of what they achieved is also down to that squad being put together by myself, but what was done after was down to Robbie's [Di Matteo] work and the work of those magnificent players.

"It is never a one-person failure and I will never take it like that."

Villas-Boas was appointed as the new boss at White Hart Lane last week following the sacking of Harry Redknapp.
