Arjen Robben: 'I feel sorry for Mainz 05'

Arjen Robben admits that he felt sorry for Mainz 05 after scoring in stoppage time to secure Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich a 2-1 victory.

Arjen Robben has claimed that he felt sorry for Mainz 05 after scoring a late winner to hand Bayern Munich a 2-1 victory on Friday night.

A stoppage-time strike from the Dutchman helped Bayern come from behind to protect their unbeaten run in the Bundesliga, but Robben was keen to pay tribute to the valiant hosts.

"I'm very happy with the win but I feel sorry for Mainz," the Bayern winger told the official Bundesliga website. "They fought so hard for 90 minutes and their fans were great, but sometimes football is like that.

"We weren't that good in the first half, left too many gaps and didn't get into the game, but I have to compliment the team. We came back and have won another game. We can all go on our holidays with a positive feeling now."

Bayern return to Bundesliga action against Wolfsburg on January 30 when the winter break comes to an end.
