Diego Simeone looks back at "extraordinary year"

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone admits that 2013 has been an "extraordinary year" for his side.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has praised his side for an "extraordinary year".

The capital outfit finished third in La Liga last season, in addition to winning the Copa del Rey, but their form has been even stronger in the new campaign.

Simeone's side breezed into the knockout stages of the Champions League, while they currently sit level on points and goal difference with Barcelona at the top of the La Liga table.

"Overall, it has been an extraordinary year. The high point was undoubtedly the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid," he told reporters at a press conference.

"The team performed and realised at the same time that we could improve."

Atletico have been drawn against AC Milan in the last-16 stage of the Champions League.
