Report: NBA to change Finals format

The NBA will reportedly change the current Finals format that has been in place since 1985.

The NBA have made the decision to make changes to their Finals schedule and the alterations could be implemented for the new season, according to a report.

In the current format, the highest seed will host the first two games before playing away in the next three and eventually gaining home court advantage for the final two contests.

However, a report by ESPN suggests that the higher seed will be at home for two matches and travel for the next two, while the final three games will alternate between the two venues.

Critics of the current format claim that home court advantage for the final two games is unfair, with the Miami Heat capitalising on that schedule by winning the sixth and seventh games in last season's Finals against the San Antonio Spurs.

The modern Finals format has been in place since 1985.
