Russian Federation wrestler Valeriia Lazinskaia admits that she was very proud of her gold medal win in the women's freestyle 63kg at the European Games.

Russian Federation wrestler Valeriia Lazinskaia has revealed that she felt "proud" on the podium after collecting her gold medal for her win in the women's freestyle 63kg.

The 22-year-old defeated Yuliia Tkach of the Ukraine 3-1 in the final at the European Games to clinch the gold medal.

She told reporters: "When you stand on the podium and you see the flag of your country rising and the anthem sounding, you have one second of your own mini-victory.

"I felt proud and think I have contributed something to my country, Russia."

Lazinskaia's gold medal is one of Russia's 12 of the Games so far.
