Russian Federation's Valeriia Lazinskaia overcame Ukraine's Yuliia Tkach 3-1 in a pulsating encounter to win the women's 63kg freestyle wrestling final in Baku on Tuesday afternoon.

Both players had cruised into the final with 5-0 victories, with Lazinskaia beating Henna Johannson, and Tkach victorious over Belalus's Maryia Mamashuk.

Despite losing the semi-final, Mamashuk picked herself up to claim bronze with a 4-0 victory over Andrea Simon.

However, Johannson failed in her attempts for a medal, losing bronze to Latvia's Anastasija Grigorjeva, who clinched her country's first medal of the Games.

The gold was Russia's 12th overall, meaning that they are flying high at the top of the medals table.
