Team GB skier Dave Ryding setting no Sochi targets

Skier Dave Ryding admits that he has set no target ahead of this weekend's men's slalom event at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.

Great Britain skier Dave Ryding has admitted that he has set no targets ahead of his alpine event.

The 27-year-old, who finished 27th four years ago in Vancouver, competes in the men's slalom this weekend at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.

"It's hard to put a number on it," Ryding is quoted as saying by Sporting Life when asked what finishing position he was aiming for. "With skiing there's variables galore. Who knows what the snow's going to be like or what the weather's going to be like? It could be raining, it could be anything, you never know.

"I've just got to worry about putting down my best skiing, that's all I'm going to be thinking at the start gate, and then the result will take care of itself. If I do a good run I'll be happy and if that happens then anything can happen. But I don't want to put a number on it.

"You come to the Olympics and you see everything before you get here, so I was already getting in the vibe. Everyone's doing great, so hopefully I can take a bit of that as well."

Ryding will be one of the last British competitors to take part in the Games.
