Yulia Lipnitskaya leads the way for Russia

Teenager Yulia Lipnitskaya takes first place in the short program figure skating event to lead the Russian medal charge at the 2014 Sochi Games.

Russia lead the way in the figure skating team events at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi with a dazzling set of displays.

Yulia Lipnitskaya, 15, took first place in the short program, while dance pair Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitry Soloviev finished third in the short dance event.

Meanwhile, Fedor Klimov and Ksenia Stolbova won in the free skate program to make it a fine day for the hosts.

Winners in the team events in figure skating will be determined later today.
