Sochi Games chief: 'Vladimir Putin satisfied with opening ceremony'

Russian president Vladimir Putin was pleased with the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, according to the chief executive of the 2014 Sochi Games.

The chief executive of the 2014 Sochi Games, Dmitry Chernyshenko, has said that Russian president Vladimir Putin was satisfied with the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics.

Three billion people around the world watched Friday's show at the Fisht Olympic Stadium.

"After the closing of the ceremony the President expressed his gratitude toward the team, to the deputy PM [Dmitry] Kozak and all the creative team," he told reporters. "He was satisfied with the result."

This year's Games are said to be the most expensive Olympics, costing £30bn.
