Russian skiers helped their German counterparts with their equipment ahead of training on Friday.
Germany's grinder machine broke down on the eve of the Sochi Games, which meant that 40 pairs of brand new and uncut skis for their biathlon, cross-country skiing, and Nordic skiing athletes could not prepared.
According to Russia Today, Austria and Switzerland turned down Germany's request to use their machines, but the hosts country stepped in and helped their rivals to train ahead of the first day of competitions.
"We have never experienced such a special situation, such a kind of fair play," president of the German Olympic Sports Union (DOSB), Alphonse Hermann, told RT.
"The Russian friends were full of trust in us. They gave us the key so it was possible that our team last night prepared the skis."
Neither Germany nor Russia has won a medal yet at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
