Novak Djokovic reaches Wimbledon semi-finals

World number one and defending champion Novak Djokovic moves into the semi-finals of Wimbledon at the expense of Florian Mayer.

World number one Novak Djokovic dropped nine games on his way to advancing through to the semi-finals of Wimbledon at the expense of Florian Mayer this afternoon.

The defending champion was matched for large parts of the opening set by Mayer.

However, Djokovic recorded a decisive break of serve late in the set, before serving out to wrap up a 6-4 success.

The second set was more straightforward for the Serbian, who broke Mayer's serve on two occasions. Meanwhile, the German struggled to make any inroads on the Djokovic serve as he slumped to a 6-1 loss.

Like the first set, the third was more evenly contested. Having made Mayer work hard to hold his service games, Djokovic finally broke through to open up a 5-4 advantage.

The 25-year-old then kept his composure, despite facing three break points, to hold his serve and book his place in the final four 6-4 6-1 6-4.

He will take on Roger Federer on Friday for a slot in the final after the Swiss player defeated Mikhail Youzhny on Centre Court earlier today.
