Kei Nishikori has set up a potential third-round meeting with Juan Martin del Potro by recording a straight-sets win over Florent Serra at Wimbledon.
The young Japanese star claimed a 6-3 7-5 6-2 victory over his French opponent, who has previously won two ATP Tour titles.
Serra went 2-0 ahead in the first set but Nishikori reeled off four games in a row to gain control of the opener.
A further break of serve from the 22-year-old wrapped up the first set and he required just one more break to win a tightly-contested second.
If Nishikori had been pushed in the first two sets, he showed his superiority in the third as he cruised to a 6-2 victory, breaking Serra twice more along the way.
Nishikori may now face former US Open champion del Potro in the next stage, if the Argentine can overcome Go Soeda in the second round.
