Victoria Azarenka shakes off a leg problem to defeat Maria Joao Koehler in the first round of Wimbledon.

World number three Victoria Azarenka overcame a leg injury to progress through to the second round of Wimbledon with a 6-1 6-2 victory over Maria Joao Koehler this afternoon.

The Australian Open champion took just 34 minutes to claim the opening set thanks to two breaks of the Koehler serve.

However, it appeared that her tournament may have ended early in the second set when she landed awkwardly on the baseline, having been wrong-footed by a shot from Koehler.

Following a medical timeout she returned to the court, though, and despite appearing to be in discomfort, she broke on two further occasions to advance through.

The 23-year-old has reached the semi-finals at SW19 during the last two tournaments.
