Andy Murray survives second-set collapse to beat Nicolas Almagro

Andy Murray survives a scare in his second-round match against Nicolas Almagro at the Madrid Masters, securing a 6-1 1-6 6-4 win.

Andy Murray has survived a scare in today's second-round match against Nicolas Almagro at the Madrid Masters, securing a 6-1 1-6 6-4 win after virtually giving away his second set.

The 2013 Wimbledon winner was dominant in the early stages, breaking his 28-year-old opponent's serve twice.

The Spaniard did manage to get on the board with a service hold in the sixth game, but in the end it was too little too late as Murray finished the set off by holding serve in the seventh.

The second set was a different story, however. Almagro fired 10 winners and won six games in row to take the set 6-1 and level matters.

Nevertheless, Murray was able to weather the storm and managed to blast a forehand winner down the line to claim the third and final set 6-4 and proceed to the third round.

The 26-year-old Brit will now face Santiago Giraldo after the Colombian overcame Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets.
