Andy Murray retains his Brisbane Open title with a straight-sets victory over Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, eventually winning 7-6 (7-0) 6-4.

Andy Murray has retained his Brisbane Open title courtesy of a straight-sets victory over Grigor Dimitrov.

The tournament's top seed overcame the Bulgarian world number 48 7-6 (7-0) 6-4 in just over an hour and a half to claim his 25th career title.

It wasn't as plain sailing as the scoreline suggests, however, as Dmitrov raced into a 3-0 lead, winning 11 of the first 12 points, and even had a set point in the first set.

The Bulgarian, playing in his first tour final, also broke the Scot in the second set to take a 4-3 lead, but Murray broke back immediately before winning the next two games and sealing the win.

The win sets Murray up ahead of the Australian Open, which starts on January 14.
