Rafael Nadal's doctor has said that the Spaniard has passed a series of medical tests on his injured knee ahead of next month's competitive comeback.

The world number four has been out of action since last June with tendinitis in his left knee and had to postpone his proposed Australian Open comeback this week due to a stomach virus.

Spanish tennis federation doctor Angel Ruiz-Cotorro has confirmed that Nadal's rehabilitation is on schedule.

He told reporters: "The tests confirm that Rafa's recovery is proceeding favourably.

"Medically speaking, we are in the final stages and the results were very satisfactory and the return to the circuit is expected to proceed according to plan."

Nadal is expected to accept an invitation to play at the Brasil Open in Sao Paulo next month, with the tournament due to begin on Monday, February 11.
