Roger Federer sets his sights on an Olympic gold medal in London next year, the one major honour he is yet to win.

World number three Roger Federer has set his sights on winning Olympic gold at next year's London games.

The 30-year-old Swiss triumphed in the English capital yesterday by winning the ATP World Tour Finals and is looking for a successful return to the capital when the games come around next summer.

"I have been able to win six World Tour Finals and that is an amazing feeling," said the 16-time grand slam champion.

"I know it is one of my greatest accomplishments and this was the strongest finish I have ever had in my career."

Depending on fitness the Swiss should be in London on three occasions in 2012 for Wimbledon, the Olympics and the defence of his title at the ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena.

"I am looking forward to next year, coming back to London, hopefully on three occasions, and this is going to be a very important place to play good tennis. I hope to be healthy when the Olympics do come around," he added.

A gold medal is the one major honour that has eluded Federer over his career.
