Andy Murray advances at French Open

Andy Murray reaches the fourth round of the French Open thanks to an epic five-set triumph over Philipp Kohlschreiber.

Andy Murray has moved into the fourth round of the French Open thanks to a 3-6 6-3 6-3 4-6 12-10 victory over Philipp Kohlschreiber this afternoon.

The match actually got underway yesterday evening, but was suspended at 9.40pm French time because of bad light.

Prior to that, Kohlschreiber claimed the opening set, but Murray responded by breaking twice to win the second and then a run of seven triumphs from eight games saw the Scot wrap up the third.

Murray took the lead early in the fourth with a break of serve, but he then appeared to be hampered by a hamstring complaint, which his German opponent took full advantage of to force the contest into a fifth set.

Just as he had done in the previous set, Murray broke early on, but he was unable to make the most of that advantage as number 28 seed Kohlschreiber responded with a break of his own. The two players then traded serves before play was halted at seven games apiece.

Both players held their initial opening three service games when play was resumed, but Murray finally got an all-important break to close out the contest 12-10.
