Feliciano Lopez bemoans wasted chance against Milos Raonic

Feliciano Lopez believes that he made a "great effort" to take his last-16 match against Milos Raonic to a decider earlier today, before being edged out in Melbourne.

Feliciano Lopez has admitted that he found life difficult against Milos Raonic this morning as his Australian Open campaign came to an end at the last-16 stage.

The number 12 seed failed to live with his opponent's strong service game at the Hisense Arena, although he managed to take the contest to a decider after surviving two match points in a fourth set tie-break.

However, Lopez proved too strong in the end, recording three aces to edge out his Spanish opponent and progress through to the quarter-finals.

"When the match went to a fifth set, you always have a chance," Lopez told reporters. "After winning the fourth set, the match was so close.

"I think I made a great effort in that tie-break when I was match point down, hitting couple good shots at that moment. But the third set, silly break that I got, and it was over. He not going to give me one break at that time.

"I made one break in the whole match. So for me was difficult to hold serve all the time, knowing that he's going to win his serve pretty easy all the time."

Raonic will now face either Novak Djokovic or Gilles Muller in the next round.
