Tommy Haas speaks of his regret following his failure to convert a match point during his loss to Jarkko Nieminen in Australia.

Germany's Tommy Haas has admitted that he was disappointed not to have progressed beyond the opening round of the Australian Open earlier today.

The 34-year-old spurned one match point before he was eventually defeated by Finland's Jarkko Nieminen in five sets.

"Anytime you lose, especially with match point, is obviously disappointing," said Haas.

"That's the sport. Unfortunately you have these ups and downs. It's a tough pill to swallow, but that's how it goes."

Veteran Haas has previously reached the semi-finals in Melbourne on three occasions.
