Rafael Nadal "very happy" with David Ferrer victory

World number one Rafael Nadal says that he is "very happy" to have begun his ATP World Tour Finals campaign with a win over David Ferrer.

Rafael Nadal has spoken of his delight with his 6-3 6-2 victory over David Ferrer in his opening group match of the ATP World Tour Finals in London this afternoon.

The Spanish duo had met in Paris on Saturday, with Ferrer coming out on top.

However, this time around Nadal, who missed the tournament last year because of a knee injury, gained revenge by dropping just five games.

"I'm very happy to be back here," he told Sky Sports News. "It's one of the best stadiums that I can play in.

"It's never easy against a player ranked number three. He's great and he played much better than me in Paris. It's just the beginning.

"I'm very happy to start with a victory but tomorrow I have a very tough match against Stanislas Wawrinka."

Victory over Wawrinka, who Nadal has a 100% winning record against from their 11 meetings, would secure his status as the world's number one player for the year.
