Dean Richards: "We shot ourselves in the foot"

Dean Richards reveals his disappointment at Newcastle's failure to pick up a surprise victory over Harlequins, as the Falcons wasted several good chances.

Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards has bemoaned his side's profligacy following this afternoon's 15-7 defeat against Harlequins.

Tim Swiel kicked five penalties to steer Quins to victory at Twickenham Stoop and leave the hosts struggling down in 10th place in the Aviva Premiership table.

Speaking after the game, Richards is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "We broke Quins at ease; we should have scored four or five tries as they created next to nothing.

"We shot ourselves in the foot as we needed to be more patient. We wanted the win today, not just a bonus point - and we didn't even get that."

Falcons return to action next weekend when they play host to Saracens.
